COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The College Station Cougars are one of six local teams in the State 7 on 7 Tournament, and they are looking to take advantage of the time on the field as they get ready to play their first season of playoff eligible football.
The Cougars made it to the State 7 on 7 Tournament a year ago as a Division II qualifier, but will step up to the Division I level this time around.
College Station is in a tough pool with Manvel, Lake Dallas, and El Paso Franklin.
The Cougars were not eligible for the playoffs the first two seasons of their program, but now in year three they have that goal ahead of them, and reaching the State 7 on 7 Tournament can only help.
Quarterback Cole Whittlesey said, "It definitely helps us just to get our passing game down, get the timing and all that. Just work on our routes, crisp routes, so it helps a ton."
Wide receiver Jeremiah Booker agrees, "We really get a taste of what 5A is and everything. We get to see where we're at and things that we need to work on and everything."
The Cougars open pool play Friday at two against El Paso Franklin.
