The Lady Cougar Soccer team defeated Navasota Tuesday night 5-0 to open district play. Despite the chilly weather and the constant drizzle, freshman newcomer Sasha Poltoratski lit up the scoreboard with 3 goals for the Cougars. She began the scoring just over 2 minutes into the match when she gathered a
goal kick at the top of the 18 and returned it into the back of the net. About nine minutes later, Emily Guerrieri assisted Poltoratski on her second goal with a nice through ball. At the 17:30 mark, Maddie Kothmann crossed a ball in front of the goal, finding Guerrieri for the Cougs 3rd goal. Poltoratski rounded out her hat trick with 4 minutes to go in the half with a shot from just outside the 18. In the second half, Jaylen Hinckley received a long ball from Kiley Scott and took it 30 yards, deftly playing it past the Rattler keeper. College Station keep Christina Hendershot and the Cougar defense notched their 8th shutout of the year. With the win, College Station moves to 1-0 in district, 8-3 overall. Next action is Friday at College Station against Rudder.
In JV action, College Station defeated the Rattlers 9-0. Scoring for the Cougs were Emily Sellers (2), Morgan Calhoun, Megan Fowler, Sabrina Burns, Shannon Gaines, Bailey Scherr and Kirstyn Sosa.
