NAVASOTA, Texas -- Fairfield forced six Navasota turnovers and snapped the Rattlers 20-game winning streak 44-24 Friday night at Rattler Stadium.
The Eagles took the lead on a 49-yard Larry Rose touchdown run, the first points the Rattler defense had given up all season.
Navasota tied it in the first, Lamarquis Jefferson scored a four-yard touchdown to even the game at seven.
The turning point came in the second quarter. Jerbrell Lipscomb returned a punt for a touchdown that would have given the Rattlers the lead, but a penalty brought it back. On the next play Derrion Randle could not handle an option pitch from Shelton Eppler, and Alex Ward returned the fumble for a touchdown to put the Eagles ahead for good.
Navasota pulled within three at 23-20 early in the third on a 12-yard Randle touchdown run, but Fairfield answered all night long to pick up the win.
The Rattlers turned the ball over six times.
Navasota falls to 4-1 and will play at Austin McCallum next week.
Fairfield, 5-0, plays at Glen Rose.
