For the second consecutive week, the Navasota High School girl's varsity basketball team won the championship of a tournament and did it in almost the same fashion.
Last week, The Rattlers had 5 big wins en route to championship game. Navasota had to come from double digits down against Bay City to capture a 40-38 win.
This week, the Big Blue had 3 blow out wins to advance to the championship game against the host Moulton Bobkats. And if the script was almost the same, Navasota had to come from down 10 points in the fourth quarter to secure a 40-34 win.
On Thursday, the Big Blue defeated Chireno 49-35. On Friday, the Rattlers beat Somerville 53-33 and Hempstead 62-20.
The championship game on Saturday evening was played before a near capacity crowd. There were 7 ties and 5 lead changes in the first half that saw Moulton hold a 21-20 halftime lead. The Bobkats got hot in the third quarter connecting on 5 of 8 shots from the field to take a 34-24 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Rattlers were able to hold the home team scoreless in the final period as they chipped away at the Bobkats. Navasota took the lead for good on a Molly Love jumper with 1:33 remaining and then connected on 3 of 4 free throws and a rebound put back by Tootie Banks to close out the game.
Tootie Banks was selected Most Valuable Player of the tournament while both Harley White and Molly Love were selected to the all tournament team.
The win extends the Rattlers win streak to 13 games as they improve to 15-2 overall.
Navasota will take few days off to prepare for final exams before getting back in action this Friday when they host undefeated Stafford. The junior varsity game is at 2:00 followed by the varsity at 3:15.
