Mumford, Texas -- Mumford ISD has hired Blayne Davis as its basketball coach and athletic director.
Davis graduated from Tarleton State with a Bachelors degree in Exercise and Sports studies in 2003. He also received a Masters of Education Administration Degree from Lamar University in 2012.
Coach Davis has been in education for the past 11 years as a teach, coach and administrator. During his 11-year career he has coaches at Millsap ISD and Throckmorton ISD. Most recently he has served as an Assistant Principal for Plains ISD.
As a head basketball coach, Coach Davis has an overall record of 133-69. During his last coaching position at Throckmorton he posted an overall record of 109-33 from 2007-2013. His team there won six consecutive district championships, including two regional quarter-finalist teams, one region semi-finalist team and and one regional finalist team in 2013.
Coach Davis; wife Lauren is also a teacher and will be joining Mumford ISD as a Social Studies teacher. They are blessed to have three year old twin, Kayne and Gracen, who will be starting Pre-K in the fall.
Coach Davis said, "My family and I are very excited to begin this new chapter in our lives. We hope to serve as a positive influence for the students at Mumford ISD. The previous coaching staff at Mumford ISD has done an excellent job of building a strong program and we hope to continue the tradition that has been started here. "
Superintendent Pete J. Bienski Jr said, "We are looking forward to working with Coach Davis and his wife. We had over 50 coached apply for the position and we were looking for someone with great character and values and showed stability in previous positions. We were also wanting someone with small school experience. Coach Davis has an excellent basketball record and we believe is the right person to continue the excellent program we had under Coach Sodek."
