Round Top-Carmine Advances, Leon Eliminated at State Volleyball Tournament

GARLAND, Texas -- A new 1A state volleyball champion will be crowned Saturday, as defending champ Leon fell to Windthorst in five in the semifinals Friday. 2012 runner-up Round Top-Carmine swept Lindsay to advance to the title game.

The Cubettes got past Lindsay 26-24, 27-25, 25-21. Megan Hohlt led the way with 20 kills and Brittany Hohlt had 14.

Round Top-Carmine will face Windthorst in the state championship match Saturday at 9 a.m.

Windthorst knocked off Leon 25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 11-25, 15-8. The Lady Cougars wrap up the season with a record of 45-3. Morgan Sigford led Leon with 19 kills, while Thelma Flores and Brooke Hastings each added ten.
