CONROE, Texas -- Bryan sealed the deal Monday night with a 13-9 victory over Conroe after a two-day weather delay.
The Lady Vikes led Conroe 5-3 in the top of the 4th inning on Friday night when bad weather struck. Play was intended to resume on Saturday, March 29th, but the Conroe field remained unplayable.
Play resumed at 6 p.m. in Conroe Monday night, and both teams found some electricity had been left in their bats. Bryan scored one run in the fifth inning and five runs in the seventh, while Conroe scored four runs in the fifth and one in the sixth and seventh innings.
On a full count in the top of the seventh with two outs, Senior Erica Russell pounded out a grand slam that will later prove to be the game winner. Russell is now the school's career scoring leader with 123. The record was previously held by Patty Gorzycki (08-11).
Ally Bessette went 2 for 3 with a homer, two walks, and three RBIs, and Desiray Sauseda was 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI, and a walk.
Rebecca Peirce and Lauren Galvan took the mound for the Vikes with Galvan getting the win on the night.
The next Lady Viking Varsity softball game will be at A&M Consolidated for the Crosstown Showdown on Friday, April 4th at 7 p.m.
