BRYAN, Texas -- After coaching the last 17 years in the Brazos Valley (Buffalo-7, Bryan-3, Rudder-4, & Franklin-3), John Shelton is picking up stakes and heading to Alvord to continue his coaching career.
Shelton is leaving Franklin High School after 3 seasons to take over as the girls' head basketball coach, cross country coach, & girls' athletic coordinator.
"The opportunity to be in charge of the entire girls' program was very attractive to me professionally," said Shelton on the phone today.
Shelton has an overall coaching record of 530 wins and 232 losses.
He has taken four different teams to regionals and advanced to the state tournament thee times.
Shelton coached seven seasons in Buffalo and advanced to State twice. Winning the 2A State Championship in 2002 beating Abernathy 48-43.
Last season he guided Franklin to its first ever state tournament appearance.
Shelton is leaving Franklin after three seasons including a trip to state in 2014.
