BRYAN, Texas -- Last week Isaac Wells resigned his coaching positions with Calvert ISD. Besides being an assistant football coach with the six-man Trojans he was the girls' head basketball coach.
Under Well's direction, the Lady Trojans complete a perfect regular season record this season and made just their second trip ever to the UIL Class 1A Division Two State Tournament last month.
Wells and Lady Trojans were denied the programs' first ever state championship following a 82-41 loss to Nazareth at the Erwin Center in Austin.
Calvert ISD Superintendent Maxie Morgan said he had no issues with Wells' coaching performance. "His coaching record speaks for itself," stated Morgan Thursday morning.
Morgan said the district has begun the search to fill Wells' vacancy.
The Lady Trojans lost three senior starters off this years' runner up team that posted a 25-2 record, but welcome back two underclassmen who saw significant playing time at the state tournament: forward Jaylonn Walker , who was named to the 1A Division Two All Tournament team, and guard Diesha Clark.
