Hometown Heroes: Somerville Yeguas

SOMERVILLE, Texas -- With ten starters back on both sides of the ball the Yeguas could be primed to show major improvement in 2013. Nathan Coronado is back as the starting quarterback, and staying healthy will be a big key to Somerville’s success. Thanks to injuries, Coronado was one of six players who suited up at quarterback a year ago. He will have plenty of good, young weapons on offense to work with, including four offensive linemen, led by all-district selection Tristan Like, and all-district running back Jarrette Hallford.

The defense gave up over 48 points per game a year ago, but with ten starters back should be vastly improved. Three starters return on the line, three at linebacker, and four more are back in the secondary.

The road to the playoffs will mostly be on the road, as the Yeguas will play three of five district games away from home. However, after the season opener at Anderson-Shiro, Somerville will play three straight at home and have a chance to build some momentum. This group of Yeguas is hungry to get back to the playoffs, and if they can learn from the hard times they had to deal with last season, they could surprise some people and be in the mix for the postseason.
