Bryan, Tx – Rebounding late from a 2-1 deficit, the Brazos Valley Bombers (27-9) came back to win 5-2 over the East Texas PumpJacks (10-26) Sunday night.

East Texas struck first in the contest as the PumpJacks pushed across an unearned run in the top of the fourth to lead 1-0.

Making his first start of the season for the Bombers, left-hander Tyler Nurdin went five innings giving up a single run on four hits with a pair of strikeouts.

“We had Nurdin on the mound for the first time from [Oklahoma State University], he was only on a 60 pitch pitch count, and he got to 59 pitches through five which is great,” said assistant coach Tyler Gillum.

“He pounded the zone and we found a way to win there at the end.”
The Bombers would tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning when second baseman Jimmy Norris scored on a single from Bombers RBI leader G.R. Hinsley.

The PumpJacks would retake the lead 2-1 in the seventh inning after stringing together a trio of singles. Bombers reliever Andre Shewcraft would hold the deficit to just one run in the eighth and go on to earn his second win of the season.

Behind back-to-back-to-back doubles from Norris, pinch hitter Logan Nottebrok, and center fielder Matt Hilston, the Bombers would come roaring back in the bottom of the eighth to score four unanswered runs.

“Before the game coach Gillum told me to stay ready, he might need me in the ninth,” said Nottebrok, who’s pinch-hit, two-RBI double gave the Bombers the winning run. “When I got up there, I felt pretty relaxed and that’s the best way to hit—just go up there and not try to do too much.”

Closer Cannon Chadwick would strike out two in the ninth inning to earn his fifth save of the season as the Bombers completed their sweep of the PumpJacks.

The Bombers have Monday off, but will face the Victoria Generals Tuesday night for the first leg of a two game series. First pitch at Riverside Stadium is at 7:35 p.m.
