COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Carrie Casey will look to complete the High School Tennis Grand Slam tomorrow morning at 9 as she takes on Rogers' Jaycie Talbot in a rematch of last year's class 2A state singles match that Casey won at the Mitchell Tennis Center on the Texas A&M Campus.
Monday afternoon Casey beat Tristen Brunson of Florence 6-3, 6-love, after winning her quarterfinal match earlier in the day 6-0, 6-1.
Carrie won a pair of state doubles championships with her older sister Kayla as a freshman and sophomore and will be looking to increase her family's state tennis championship total to an even dozen after she, her mom and two sisters have already combined for 11.
College Station's Nick Bradham will also play for a state championship Tuesday at 9am following pair of lopsided victories Monday 6-0, 6-0 & 6-1, 6-1 over Cameron Sanson of Bullard and Sam San Marco of Wimberley.
Caldwell's Ecaroh Jackson earned the Hornets first state tennis berth since 1977, but was still dealing with a bout of strep throat Monday morning and suffered a 6-3, 6-1 quarterfinal loss.
In 3A girls' doubles College Station's Lillian Ford and Sandhiya Ravichandran were eliminated 6-love and 6-love in the quarterfinals.
On the boy's side in 3A, the College Station duo of Kyle Miller and Noah Jean lost a nail bitter in straight sets in the quarterfinals 7-6, 7-5.
Franklin's Brent Wallingford earned his 4th straight trip to the UIL State tournament, but won't advance to 'Title Tuesday' after a 6-2, 6-love quarterfinal loss to William Billo of Goliad Monday morning.
In other state tournament news the UIL announced that 4A, 5A and 6A brackets will join 1A, 2A, & 3A at the Mitchell Tennis Center next year meaning that 30 State Champions will be crowned in Aggieland in 2015.
