COLLEGE STATION – UPDATE Crews resumed laying sod on Monday evening. As of 10:30 Tuesday morning, half the field is covered in grass.
Heavy rains at the Texas farm where the grass was grown, delayed the harvesting and transport.
The $450 million renovation of Kyle Field has reached a new milestone. For the first time in nearly nine months, there is grass on the field.
Crews started laying down sod shortly after 5:00 p.m. Wednesday. They’re working to everything ready for the home opener against Lamar on September 6.
The playing surface has been nothing but dirt since Johnny Manziel’s final home game on November 9. Crews started removing the old sod minutes after the Aggies 51-41 victory over Mississippi State.
The grass was sold for $400 a pallet which contained 450 square feet of sod. A limited number of single squares of grass was sold for $20 each.Fans who purchased of piece of Kyle Field had to pick it up the following morning.
