The Bearkats (22-11, 6-6 SLC) and Wildcats (12-17, 2-4 SLC) met every year from 1973 to 1979 with the Kats holding a 24-6 advantage all-time. The two teams will meet regularly once again as ACU is one of four new schools to have joined the Southland Conference this year.

Sam Houston has won three straight games after rallying to take the crucial series at Oral Roberts and again coming from behind to beat Baylor at home Tuesday. In those three games third baseman Carter Burgess is batting .500 with a two doubles, two RBI and five runs scored.
Abilene Christian was swept by Lamar last weekend and dropped a midweek game to nationally ranked Texas Tech. The Wildcats have a pair of hitters batting over .390 for the season, infielder Brandon Grudzielanek and catcher Seth Spivey.
It’s a season of firsts for senior Jason Simms, who will make the first Friday night start of his career. Three weeks ago Simms made the first start of his career in an 8-1 win over ranked Texas A&M. Last week he tossed his first ever complete game in a 2-1 win at Oral Roberts.
Freshman Sam Odom returns to the weekend rotation to make his fifth start of the season. He pitched seven innings of relief and got the win in the series-clincher against ORU.
Center fielder Colt Atwood is the Bearkats’ leading hitter, batting .350 with a league-high 48 hits. Atwood and catcher Anthony Azar are both second on the team with 26 RBI. First baseman Ryan O’Hearn has the team lead with 27 RBI while batting .297.
The Bearkats will welcome the No. 7 Houston Cougars Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. for 50 Cent Hot Dog Night at Don Sanders Stadium. The Kats and Cougars split a pair of games last season.
