In the wake of a record-setting junior season with the LSU Tigers in 2014, All-American discus thrower Rodney Brown unleashed a meet-record throw of 207 feet, 9 inches to strike gold in the discus final on Friday night at the 2014 North American, Central American & Caribbean Championships being held in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada.

Brown, a 2011 Navasota High graduate, outclassed the field with his performance as he won the NACAC Championships gold medal by nearly 20 feet over his nearest competitor with his winning mark of 207-9 during the competition.

University of Tennessee standout Tavis Bailey finished a distant second to Brown as he scored the silver medal for the United States with a series-best mark of 188-2. Canada’s Jordan Young rounded out the medalists as he took home the bronze medal for the host country with his best throw of 175-3 on the day.

It caps a historic junior season for Brown while winning a gold medal in his second career international competition with Team USA after also throwing the discus at the 2012 IAAF World Junior Championships.

Brown has twice set LSU’s school record in the men’s discus during his junior season, most recently with a seasonal-best throw of 212-2 in taking the event title at the USATF Throws Initiative Test Meet last weekend in Chula Vista, California, in a warm-up for the NACAC U-23 Championships. Brown first set LSU’s school-record mark with a meet-record throw of 210-10 as the 2014 Penn Relays champion.
