SEC Coaches Predict Aggie Women’s Cross Country To Finish 3rd Place, Men 6th

BIRMINGHAM – As Texas A&M embarks on its third season in the SEC, the conference cross country coaches predict a third-place finish for the Aggie women and a sixth-place result for the A&M men in the 2014 SEC Championships.

The SEC cross country preseason coaches’ poll, released Wednesday by the conference office, favor Arkansas to repeat as the men’s and women’s team champions this season. The SEC Championships will be held on October 31 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

In 2013 the Aggie women placed second in the SEC to record its highest finish ever in a conference cross country meet. The A&M men finished eighth last season after tying for third place in 2012.

The SEC coaches tabbed the Aggie women third, with 39 points from the voting, for the 2014 season behind Arkansas (13 points) and Vanderbilt (34) while ahead of Florida (58), Alabama (65), Mississippi State (72), Missouri (79), Kentucky (99), Georgia (104), Tennessee (116), Mississippi (135), Auburn (142), South Carolina (152) and LSU (166).

With 64 points in the men’s preseason poll the A&M men rank sixth behind Arkansas (16), Florida (27), Mississippi (42), Missouri (51) and Auburn (59). Ranked behind the Aggies are Georgia (77), Kentucky (79), Alabama (101), Mississippi State (107), Tennessee (115), LSU (136) and Vanderbilt (141).

Texas A&M opens their 2014 campaign with a home meet on Friday, August 29, and will have a second home event on Saturday, September 20.
