HOUSTON Texas A&M defensive standout and former All-American Jacob Green was inducted into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame as part of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame at a ceremony today in Houston. The class of 2014 included Green (Texas A&M), Marci Bozarth (TCU), Regina Cavanaugh (Rice), Chris Gilbert (Texas), Chuck Hixson (SMU), David Klingler (Houston), Coach John McDonnell (Arkansas), Coach Dutch Schroeder (Baylor) and Carolyn Thompson (Texas Tech).
Green, originally from Houston Kashmere High School, signed with Coach Emory Bellard and earned three letters (1977-79) for the Aggies. In his final game on Kyle Field, Green helped lead a 13-7 upset of Top 10-ranked Texas with Aggie head coach Tom Wilson commenting “Green spent as much time in the Texas backfield as the Longhorn running backs.”
Earlier in the 1979 season, Green recorded 22 tackles against Baylor and ended the 1979 season with 134 stops. Among those were 28 tackles behind the line of scrimmage for losses of 148 yards. He left Texas A&M as the all-time leader in quarterback sacks with 37 and still holds the season record for sacks with 20 in the 1979 season.
Green was the first-round draft selection by the Seattle Seahawks in 1980 and is a member of the Super Bowl Champion Seahawks’ Ring of Honor for his outstanding NFL career.
Green is currently the vice president for major gifts and endowments for the 12th Man Foundation.
