ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - The Boston Red Sox have moved into the
American League Championship Series for the third time in five
seasons
The Red Sox did it by completing a three-game sweep of the Los
Angeles Angels, 9-1. They outscored the Angels 19-4 in the series
and now prepare for the Cleveland Indians or New York Yankees in
the ALCS.
The game was scoreless until David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez hit
back-to-back homers in the fourth inning. Coco Crisp added a
two-run single to cap a seven-run eighth that put the Bosox ahead
9-0. Dustin Pedroia (peh-DROY-uh), Mike Lowell and Jason Varitek
added RBI doubles during the eighth-inning outburst.
Curt Schilling was outstanding over seven shutout innings,
holding the Angels to six hits and a walk while striking out four.
Jered Weaver was the loser, yielding two runs and two hits in
five-plus innings.
