SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) - Kimi Raikkonen is the 2007 Formula One champion. The Ferrari driver grabbed his first F1 title with a first-place finish in the Brazilian Grand Prix.
It was the tightest race for the championship in 21 years, with
Raikkonen erasing a seven-point gap coming into the race and
finishing just one point better than both Lewis Hamilton and
Hamilton went off the track on lap number one and settled for
seventh place, while Alonso finished a disappointing third.
Alonso would have had to finish second and Hamilton fifth to
keep Raikkonen from winning the championship after his victory.
Raikkonen is the first Finn to claim the F1 title since Mikka
Hakkinen won back to back in 1998 and 99.
