HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans today promoted 28-year-old
Kyle Shanahan to offensive coordinator.
That makes Shanahan the youngest coach at that position in the
NFL.
The son of Denver coach Mike Shanahan replaces Mike Sherman, who spent two seasons with the Texans before being named the head coach at Texas A&M in November.
Shanahan spent the last two seasons with the Texans, first
coaching receivers coach and then quarterbacks. He'll continue to
coach quarterbacks as offensive coordinator.
The Texans also hired Alex Gibbs, who takes over the
assistant head coach slot Sherman also held.
The 66-year-old Gibbs most recently worked with Atlanta, first
as an assistant and then a consultant for the previous three
seasons.
