SAN ANTONIO - Memphis is going to the NCAA title game for
the first time since 1973. The once-beaten Tigers ran away from
UCLA 78-63 in the first game of a Final Four populated by four
Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 28 points for Memphis. Joey Dorsey
didn't score but grabbed 15 big rebounds.
Memphis star freshman Derrick Rose finished with 25 points and
nine rebounds. Rose also hit 11 of 12 free throws. For a team
supposedly vulnerable from the foul line, the Tigers did fine by
sinking 20 of 23 from the charity stripe.
Russell Westbrook led the Bruins with 22. It's the third
straight year the Bruins have gone to the Final Four without
winning another national title. UCLA ends its year 35-and-4.
Memphis awaits the winner of tonight's North Carolina-Kansas
game to play for the national title on Monday night.
