NEW YORK (AP) - Saying he was due for an off day anyway, Chicago White Sox slugger Jim Thome has decided not to appeal
his one-game suspension, and will sit out this afternoon's contest
against the visiting Oakland Athletics.
Earlier today, Thome was suspended and fined an undisclosed sum
by Major League Baseball for "inappropriate actions" during last
Friday's game against Detroit.
Thome was ejected in the fifth inning following a third-strike
call by plate umpire James Hoye. Replays showed the 3-2 pitch
Thome headed toward first thinking he had walked. He then turned
and began arguing with Hoye and Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen
(GEE'-uhn) had to separate Thome from the ump.
