CINCINNATI -- Ken Griffey Junior homered twice in leading
the Cincinnati Reds to an 8-to-4 victory over the Texas Rangers.
David Ross also homered twice for Cincinnati, which scored all its
runs off five homers. Adam Dunn also went deep.
Rangers slugger Sammy Sosa came into the game one homer shy of
becoming the fifth player to reach 600. He was hitless in five
Griffey hit a solo homer in the first inning off Jamey Wright,
who is 0-and-1. He added a two-run shot in the third that left him
to give him 581 career homers.. Griffey is eighth on the career
list, two behind Mark McGwire.
He nearly had more. Griffey lined out to Sosa in right field in
his next at-bat. He sent Sosa to the wall to catch his drive in the
sixth inning off Ron Mahay.
