HOUSTON -- Houston quarterback Al Pena -- who was competing
for the starting job -- has left the Cougars program to begin
coaching.
Pena received a waiver from the NCAA to play for the Cougars
this season after graduating from Oklahoma State in May with one
year of eligibility left.
Pena didn't play last season. He was 89-of-179 for 1,102 yards
and eight touchdowns in 2005.
Pena says he plans to join his father in Hidalgo, Texas, to
coach high school football.
Pena was competing with Blake Joseph and Case Keenum to replace
Kevin Kolb, a second-round pick by Philadelphia, who left UH with a
bundle of passing records.
