IRVING, Texas (AP) - Wade Phillips was a winner in his Dallas
coaching debut after watching his Cowboys beat the New York Giants
45-35 in the highest-scoring Giants-Cowboys game ever.
Marion Barber got things rolling with an 18-yard touchdown run
on fourth-and-one, Terrell Owens added two highlight-reel touchdown
catches but it was Tony Romo's stunning efficiency that made the
Cowboys light up the scoreboard.
Romo threw for a career-high 345 yards and four touchdowns, and
ran for another score. Romo averaged 23 yards per completion to
help the Cowboys match the most points they ever scored in four
years under Bill Parcells.
However, Phillips' supposedly improved defense gave up 438 yards
and lots of big plays. Giants QB Eli Manning suffered a bruised
throwing shoulder but completed 28-of-41 for 312 yards and four
touchdowns with an interception.
Owens had three catches for 87 yards, all in the second half.
Jason Witten had six catches for 116 yards and a touchdown.
