IRVING, Texas (AP) - Dallas Cowboys linebacker Greg Ellis took
part in practice on a limited basis today.
It was his first team workout since the opening day of training
Ellis tore his left Achilles' tendon in a game in November.
He came out for the opening workout of camp July 25th before he
felt an unbearable pain in his surgically repaired foot.
Ellis -- wearing his helmet but no pads -- went through some
individual workouts today.
He seemed to be working with no problems during the portion of
practice open to the media.
Starting cornerback Terence Newman, who missed the season opener
and the last three preseason games because of a tear in the tissue
on the base of his foot, was also at practice.
He, too, was limited -- working mostly with the scout team.
Coach Wade Phillips called their participation "very
encouraging," but wasn't ready to say if Ellis and Newman might
play Sunday at Miami.
