SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Placing third in her semifinal heat of the 400 meters on Friday evening earned Jessica Beard a berth into the final of the USATF Championships held at Sacramento State University.
Beard ran a time of 51.46 seconds in finishing behind Dee Dee Trotter (50.98) and Phyllis Francis (50.99). The fourth runner to advance from the second semifinal was Taylor Ellis-Watson (51.92). A faster first semifinal was claimed by Sanya Richards-Ross in 50.03 ahead of Francena McCorory (50.05), Natasha Hastings (50.68) and Briana Nelson (51.05).
Those eight sprinters will line up for the final of the women’s 400m on Saturday at 3:05 p.m. (CT). Coverage of the race will be available on NBC.
Also competing on Saturday in the prelims of the 200 meters are Aggies Ashton Purvis, Jeneba Tarmoh, Curtis Mitchell and Ameer Webb. The men’s 200m prelim starts at 1:20 p.m. while the women’s 200m prelim begins at 2:20 p.m. Coverage of the prelim races will be available online at USATF.tv.
