INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - University of Louisville basketball player Kevin Ware is already up and walking -- a day after his right leg snapped during the team's victory over Duke in an NCAA regional final.
Coach Rick Pitino visited Ware again this morning in the hospital. He says doctors are watching to make sure an infection doesn't develop. If all goes well, he says, Ware should be released tomorrow.
During a 2-hour operation last night, doctors reset Ware's broken tibia and inserted a rod into the bone.
Pitino says Ware's teammates expect to have him on the bench when they play in the Final Four this weekend in Atlanta. Ware's family lives in the Atlanta area.
When he visited Ware last night, Pitino brought him the Midwest Regional championship trophy -- and this morning, he says, Ware didn't want to give it up. The coach let him keep it, and told him, "Just make sure you don't lose it."
