DALLAS (AP) Gersson Rosas has resigned as general manager of the Dallas Mavericks just three months into his new job.

Rosas said Tuesday the position "was not the best fit for me at this point in my career." He said the decision was made "solely by me" and that owner Mark Cuban tried to change his mind.

Rosas filled a position that had been vacant since former coach and GM Don Nelson left the franchise eight years ago. He reported to Nelson's son, Donnie Nelson, the president of basketball operations.

When he hired Rosas, Cuban said he was looking for someone with stronger organization skills to complement him and Donnie Nelson.

Rosas, a native of Colombia, was an executive with the Houston Rockets when the Mavericks hired him Aug. 1.
