Posted: 05/20/2008 - Doug Mathis gave up nine runs in 2 1/3 innings and the Rangers lost to the Twins, 11-4, at the Metrodome on Tuesday. The Rangers have lost three consecutive games, their longest losing streak since they lost seven in a row in April. The Twins scored two in the first and seven in the third inning off of Mathis, who was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three relief appearances before making his first start. Three of the nine runs were unearned because of errors by catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and second baseman Ian Kinsler.

Updated: 05/20/2008 - Both starting pitchers Tuesday night had one bad inning. Fortunately for the Astros, Chris Sampson's bump in the road was less costly than Ryan Dempster's, and as a result, Houston prevailed, 4-2. Sampson yielded a two-run homer to Aramis Ramirez in the fourth frame, but Hunter Pence returned the favor in the bottom of the inning, and with more runners on base. Pence knocked his second career grand slam, which turned out to be the difference-maker in this win before 33,339 fans -- most of whom were cheering for the Astros -- at Minute Maid Park.
