HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- Sam Houston State will play host to Texas Southern in a non-conference softball game Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
The Tigers and the Bearkats were supposed to play a doubleheader Wednesday but have decided to play only a single contest.
Texas Southern leads the Southwestern Athletic Conference in softball with a 13-1 league record and a 30-13 season mark.
The two met a month ago in Houston with the Bearkats winning 6-2 and 7-5. The second game went into extra innings.
Eight Tiger starters are hitting above .300.
Sam Houston brings a 28-19 record into the matchup.
Six Bearkats are hitting above .300 including Tori Benavidez (.403), Tiffany Castillo (.371) Jessica Slater (.362), Hillary Adams (.345), Cecilia Castillo (.326) and Alyssa Coggins (.328).
The Bearkats return to Southland Conference play Saturday and Sunday. Sam Houston faces league leading McNeese State in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday and a 1 p.m. single game Sunday.
Sunday's game wraps up the 2013 Bearkat home softball schedule. The Kats will close out the regular season a week later at Northwestern State.
