Arlington – Third baseman Shelbi Tucker blasted a three-run triple to right field to give Sam Houston a 10-7 Southland Conference softball victory over UT-Arlington in extra innings Saturday afternoon at Allan Saxe Field.
The victory sets up a showdown for the Southland Conference regular season softball championship next Friday and Saturday when Texas State visits the Bearkat Softball Complex in Huntsville.
The Bobcats are already clinched a tie for the title with their 16-2 Southland slate. But a two-game sweep of Texas State by Sam Houston would earn the Kats a share of the championship. Game times are 6 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday.
Tucker went 3-for-5 at the plate, totaling five RBIs with a run-scoring single in the fourth inning and an RBI double in the seventh.
Second baseman Alyssa Coggins and left fielder Calli Wood also tripled. Both blasts brought in two Bearkat runs.
Sam Houston (26-17, 14-4) led 7-4 going into the bottom of the seventh inning but the Mavericks rallied to tie the game on a two-run homer by Erica LeFlore.
Shelby Lancaster (11-6) was the winning pitcher for Sam Houston State.
UT-Arlington (13-25, 3-13) totaled 13 hits while Sam Houston posted 12. Callie Collins (6-13) was the loser in the circle for the Mavericks.
