HUNTSVILLE, Texas Sam Houston defeated A&M-Corpus Christi 25-16 25-23 25-20 to run its Southland Conference volleyball record to 4-0 Thursday night.
The Bearkats continued their streak of Southland wins without dropping a set, but it wasn’t easy. The Kats never trailed in the first and third sets, but were down 23-20 in the second frame.
Kills by Krista Koopman and Shelby Genung and a pair of attack errors allowed Sam Houston to rally for the set win.
SHSU volleyball now stands 7-6 for the year while A&M-Corpus Christi dropped to 2-1 in league action and 7-7 for the season.
Deveney Wells-Gibson led both teams in kills with 14 in 44 attempts. Haley Neisler added nine kills without an error in 20 attempts.
Genung knocked down seven kills while Lauren Bohlen added five.
Ashley Phillips led A&M-Corpus Christi with 12 kills
Tayler Gray assisted on 41 of Sam Houston’s 42 kills and led the Kats with 18 digs. Libero Breanna Homer added 14 digs.
The Bearkat front line accounted for 12 blocks. Genung and Wells-Gibson each totaled five block assists.
Sam Houston State, which has won six of its last eight matches overall, will look to continue is Southland winning streak Saturday at 7:30 p.m. when the Kats play host to Houston Baptist at Johnson Coliseum.
