HUNTSVILLE, TX -- Led by Jeremy McKay with 16 points, Sam Houston defeated Huston Tillotson 89-53 in a non-conference men’s basketball game Wednesday night at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The victory was the third in a row for the Bearkats who evened their season record at 5-5. Huston Tillotson dropped to 2-11.
After a first half that saw five lead changes, Sam Houston pulled away to lead 38-30 at intermission and outscored the Rams 51-23 in the second period.
Marquel McKinney added 12 points for Sam Houston and Terrance Motley and Darius Gatson scored 11 apiece. Demetrius Smith led Huston Tillotson with 15 points.
Sam Houston produced its best shooting night of the season, hitting 36 of 71 shots for 50.7 percent. The Bearkats outrebounded the Rams 45-28 with DeMarcus Gatlin leading SHSU with sweven.
The Bearkats scored 40 of their 89 points in the paint with 33 points coming off Huston Tillotson’s 26 turnovers.
