HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- Sam Houston pitcher Cody Dickson has been named as the Southland Conference baseball Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Dickson tossed a one-hit shutout in the conference opener against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Friday. The junior from Mansfield, Texas (Summit H.S.) did not allow a hit until the sixth inning and allowed only two base runners the whole game.
He tied a career high in strikeouts (11) while striking out the side in the fifth. Dickson did not issue any walks in the Bearkats 5-0 win.
Dickson is 3-2 with a 2.92 earned run average. He leads the league in opponent’s batting average (.151) and hits allowed (19).
He shares the honor with Lamar’s Jonathan Dziedzic, who pitched 10 shutout innings in an 18 inning game against McNeese State. Dziedzic fanned 12 batters and walked one.
Next action for Sam Houston is a midweek game against Rice University Tuesday at Don Sanders Stadium.
