Though Andrew Godail put forth a complete-game performance, the Bearkats fell to the Lumberjacks 2-0 Friday night, splitting the series at 1-1. Godail pitched eight innings but allowed two runs while striking out 10 and walking six.
Shortstop Hunter Dozier continued his hitting streak, knocking a solo shot over the fence in the bottom of the fifth inning, giving SFA a 2-0 lead. Outfielder Jackson Hood drove in the first run for his team in the bottom of the second.
Starter Kyle Cross pitched a brilliant game for the Lumberjacks, striking out seven through seven innings, only to be relieved in the eighth. Reliever Brett Higginbotham finished the game, throwing two shutout innings while fanning two batters in the process.
Second baseman Jessie Plumlee was a solid 3-for-3 from the plate and third baseman Kevin Miller was 2-for-4. Outfielders Luke Plucheck and Colt Atwood were the only other Kats to register a hit.
The Bearkats and Lumberjacks will play the rubber match at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
