Tricia Mallory scored a milestone goal and the Kats got a much needed win on the road.

It took 23 extra seconds, but Sam Houston State was finally on the positive side of a late match victory. After dropping their last two games in the closing moments, the Kats got one back on Sunday night, knocking off Texas Southern 1-0 in overtime.

After playing to a scoreless 90 minutes of regualtion, the Kats wasted little time in the extra period. They took the openeing kickoff right down the field, and Kirby Zak crossed a ball into the box and Mallory hit the back of the net just 23 seconds into overtime.

"We did a good job of knocking the ball aruond but it was a frustrating game," said SHSU head coach Tom Brown. "Their keeper made some nice saves and we are happy to get out of here with the win."

Freshman Kylie Hambleton got her first win and shutout of her college career, recording five saves in goal

It's the second win of the season for the Kats and the goal snapped a stretch of 243 minutes without a goal for the Bearkats.

For Mallory, the game-winner was her 20th career goal, moving her to second place in school history for most goals.

Zak's assist was the 17th of her career, a stat category she is already sits on top of.

The Kats are now 2-2 on the season. They will be back in action on Friday when they head to College State for a tournament taking on Saint Mary's.
