Houston – Angela Beadle scored a career high 30 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead the Sam Houston women to a 79-74 overtime victory over Rice in a non-conference road basketball game.
Beadle scored eight of Sam Houston’s 13 points in the overtime period to help lead the Bearkat women to their fourth consecutive victory. The 6-3 junior post player scored SHSU’s first six points in the overtime.
Senior guard Jasmine Johnson added 21 points and assisted on six other baskets. Freshman point guard Taylor Dorsey also scored in double figures with 12 points.
Sam Houston led 42-35 at intermission, but the Owls outscored the Kats 31-24 in the second period. Breion Allen forced extra time with a three pointer with six seconds remaining in regulation.
Working the ball inside to Beadle three times for short jumpers in the first two minutes of the overtime, Sam Houston took command. Jazmin Wiley, who had six points and six rebounds, scored on a free throw to give SHSU a 73-69 lead. Johnson added two more important charity points to hold off the Owls in the final seconds.
Rice drops to 3-4 for the year. The victory was Sam Houston's first road win of the season.
