The No. 20 Bearkat baseball team dropped the final game of the three-game series with McNeese State, falling 5-1 to the Cowboys on Sunday afternoon.
It took the Kats (28-11, 17-4) five innings to notch their first hit of the game and the only run came off a Shea Pierce home run in the 8th inning.
The Kats managed just three hits on the day, hitting into three double plays and leaving three runners stranded.
Cody Dickson got the start for the Kats and lasted just 2 1/3 innings, as the Bearkats sent five different pitchers to the hill.
The Bearkats finish the weekend the same way they started it, with a four-game lead in the Southland Conference over Southeast Louisiana and Texas Arlington.
SHSU will return home on Tuesday to take on Houston Baptist. They will then play a home Southland series for the first time since completing a sweep of Northwestern State on April 7. The season, the Bearkats have dropped just one conference game at home, in the opening series of the year to SFA.
