HOUSTON, TX -- Deveney Wells-Gibson led Sam Houston with 13 kills in 31 attempts as the Bearkats fell to Rice 25-15 25-21 25-21 in a non-conference volleyball match Tuesday night.
Nancy Cole led the Owls with 15 kills. Both teams now stand 3-5 for the season.
Each of the three sets were tight, hard fought affairs. The first set was tied nine times with four lead changes. The final set was tied seven times with two lead changes.
Kendall Cleveland added eight kills for Sam Houston and Carling Urban and Kim Black each had six.
Tayler Gray assisted on 30 of Sam Houston’s 35 kills. Gray also added 15 digs. Libero Jamie Haas was credited with 14 digs.
Sam Houston State continues its eight-match road swing, heading to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl Invitational hosted by Tulane.
Sam Houston returns to Huntsville on Thursday, Sept. 13 when the Bearkats will begin Southland Conference action with the newest member of the league, Oral Roberts.
