SHSU Volleyball beats Tulane

New Orleans – Led by Deveney Wells-Gibson with 15 kills, Sam Houston State volleyball got back on the winning track with a three set victory over Tulane Saturday night.

The Bearkats defeated the Green Wave 25-19 27-25 25-19 to up their season record to 4-7. Tulane fell to 1-8. The action concluded SHSU’s play at the Sugar Bowl Volleyball Classic

Wells-Gibson totaled her 15 kills in 42 attempts. Kim Black and Kaylee Hawkins each added seven kills apiece. Black led the front line, taking part in six of the Kats’ 10 blocks.

Tayler Gray, who was select as one of six players on the all-tournament team, assisted on 35 of SHSU’s 43 kills and picked up 11 digs.

Sam Houston outscored the Green Wave 53 points to 43.

The Bearkats open Southland Conference action Thursday at 7 p.m. against Oral Roberts, the newest members of the Southland Conference.
