SHSU golf in good shape at Harold Funston Intercollegiate

The Bearkat men are in first place and the women stand second after 36 holes on the first day of the Harold Funston Golf Intercollegiate hosted by SHSU at Raven Nest Golf Course.
Sam Houston leads the men’s event with a 36-hole total of 281-280—561, 25 strokes ahead of second place North Dakota State (290-296—586).
Bearkats Micah Hill (67-68—135) and Logan Boatner (71-69—140) are in first and second place in the medalist standings, respectively. Albert Miner (71-72—143) stands tied for fourth and Justin McKay (73-71—144) and J. T. Taylor (72-72—144) both stand in seventh place in the individual standings.
North Dakota State (586) is in second, followed by Tyler Junior College 594, Texas-Pan American 605, Jacksonville College 614 and Texas Southern 665.
Saint Edward’s leads the women’s tournament with a 290-297—587 total. The Bearkats are five strokes back with a first day score of 297-295—592.
Wallis Spears of Saint Edward’s is the women’s individual leader with a 68-71—139 card. Vanessa Johnson of A&M-Corpus Christi (594) stands second while Nicole Budnik of Sam Houston is in third (71-73—144).
Shelby Hardy (75-72—147) also stands in the top 10 individuals.
A&M-Corpus Christi is third in the women’s standings with a 594 total followed by Lamar 597, Houston Baptist 604, Western Texas 619, Tyler 634, Alabama State 636, Texas-Pan American 649, New Orleans 737 and Jacksonville 786.
Tomorrow’s final round begins at 8:30.
