Tulsa – Oral Roberts scored in the final 20 seconds of double overtime Sunday afternoon to hand Sam Houston its first Southland Conference women’s soccer loss.
Jennifer Abernathy put in the game winning shot on a pass from Booth Whitney at the 109:43 mark during the second 10 minutes of sudden death overtime. The match marked the fifth time this season the Bearkats have gone into extra time. Sam Houston tied 0-0 Friday night on their first leg of the weekend road trip at Southeastern Louisiana.
Sam Houston totaled eight shots while ORU was credited with 28. Bearkat goalkeeper Kylie Hambleton made 12 saves.
Tricia Mallory led the Bearkats with three shots. She had a shot blocked by a defender in the 18th minutes and her header was saved in the 54th minute.
Sam Houston falls to 5-8-1 for the season and 2-1-1 in Southland Conference play. Oral Roberts is 8-4-2 for the year and 2-1 in league action.
Next action for the Bearkats is a 7 p.m. home match at Pritchett Field Friday Oct. 12 with the Northwestern State Demons.
