Air Force rallied from a goal down at halftime to hand Sam Houston State a 2-1 loss in the Bearkats’ final non-conference women’s soccer match Friday in Colorado Springs.
Shelby McDaniel gave the Bearkats an early lead with a goal after a steal in the 36th minute.
Stephanie Patterson, the Air Force’s leading scorer this season, produced two second half goals. The first came on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute and the second on a shot from just outside the six-yard box in the 69th minute.
Ashley Alonzo had a shot blocked in the 80th minute and Ashley Fluty’s shot was saved in the 84th as the Kats attempted to equalize and force overtime.
Both teams totaled 15 shots. McDaniel and Alonzo led Sam Houston with three shots each. SHSU goalkeeper Kylie Hambleton was credited with six saves.
Sam Houston, now 3-7 for the season, opens Southland Conference action next weekend in Huntsville. The Bearkats face Nicholls at 7 p.m. Friday and Central Arkansas Sunday at 1 p.m.
