First baseman Kim Damian went 2-for-3 with four RBIs to lead Sam Houston to a 10-0 run-rule shutout of Southland Conference leader Central Arkansas Sunday at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
The win earned the Kats a softball series victory as the pair split Saturday’s doubleheader. Sam Houston now stands 14-15 for the season and 3-3 in Southland action. UCA drops to 20-9 for the year and 4-2 in the league.
The contest completed a weekend of long ball hitting for the Bearkats. Sam Houston totaled five home runs, two triples and five doubles in the three-game set.
Home runs by Damian in the first and Tiffany Castillo in the second inning plus an RBI single in the second by Cecilia Castillo gave Sam Houston a quick 5-0 lead.
Castillo brought in two more runs in the bottom of the third inning with a single down the right field line.
Damian lashed another blast to the wall in left center in the fourth inning to score two more runs, then scored herself on a single by Hillary Adams.
Haley Baros (4-7) picked up her first shutout of the season in her third complete game this year. Baros faced 23 batters, striking out five with no walks.
Sam Houston State returns to the Bearkat Softball Complex to host the Houston Cougars Wednesday.
