Junior outside hitter Deveney Wells-Gibson has been named as Southland Conference volleyball “Offensive Player of the Week.”
The San Antonio Churchill product averaged 5.43 kills per set in victories against McNeese State and Nicholls last week.
She accounted for 42 of the Bearkats’ 130 points last week while extending her streak of double-figure kills to 14.
Wells-Gibson has been an asset on defense as well with 52 service receptions, 42 digs and six blocks. She now has 13 matches with double-figure totals in kills and digs this season.
The outside hitter who was named as Southland volleyball “Player of the Year” after leading the Kats to the league title in 2012 is leading the league in total kills this season.
Sam Houston will wrap up regular season play with matches on the road at Houston Baptist on Thursday and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday afternoon.
The Southland Conference post-season volleyball tournament which will decide the league’s representative in the NCAA tournament begins Friday, Nov. 22, also in Corpus Christi.
