Sam Houston State junior Shelby Hardy was named the Southland Conference Women's Golfer of the Month for April, the league office announced Thursday.

Hardy helped lead Sam Houston to a second-place team finish by claiming top individual honors at the Houston Baptist Husky Invitational, April 2-3.

The San Saba product claimed her second individual championship of the season with a three-round total 6-over par score of 222, including a low-round of 70.

The tournament individual championship at HBU was the junior's third title of her Bearkat career.

Hardy is only the second Sam Houston State women's golfer to rack up three individual tournament championships during her career. Raman Saran won four tournaments between 2001-02 and 2004-05.

Saran holds the school record for most individual medalist tournament titles in one season, winning three as a senior in 2005. Hardy is one of only four Bearkat women's golfers to win two tournament titles in one year. The other three are Wendy Gray (2001-02), Stefanie Page (2006-07) and Landa Stewart (2010-11).

Hardy's selection as Southland Conference April "Women's Golfer of the Month" marks her third time to earn the honor. She was a recipient of the award during both her freshman season in 2009-10 and as a sophomore in 2010-11.

Hardy and the Bearkats next hit the links April 16-18 for the Southland Conference Women's Golf Championship at Vaaler Creek Golf Club in Blanco, Texas.
