WHAT'S AT STAKE

Baylor is heavily favored to extend its seven-game winning streak, the second-longest active streak in the country behind TCU's nine-game run. Sam Houston State is looking for a measure of respect to back up last year's trip to the Football Championship Subdivision title game.

KEY MATCHUP

Baylor's running game vs. Sam Houston's rushing defense. The Bears had 220 rushing yards - and not a single carry for a loss - in their season-opening 59-24 win over SMU. The Bearkats held Incarnate Word to minus-46 rushing yards, and Incarnate Word had only two running backs with positive yardage. Those backs combined for 3 yards on three carries.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Sam Houston RB Timothy Flanders went 31 yards on his first career carry in a 34-3 loss to Baylor in 2010. Now he's Sam Houston's career rushing leader with 2,709 yards after opening the season with 117 yards and two touchdowns against Incarnate Word.

Baylor QB Nick Florence was nearly flawless in the first game of the post-Robert Griffin III era. He had 341 passing yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. He wasn't sacked either.

Sam Houston has three wins in 26 games against Football Bowl Subdivision opponents. Last year, the Bearkats beat New Mexico 48-45 in overtime. They've been within a touchdown of a higher-division opponent five times, including a 13-9 loss to Baylor in 1990. ... Sam Houston held Incarnate Word to 88 yards total offense in the opener, the second-best showing in school history. In 1990, the Bearkats limited Stephen F. Austin to 86 total yards and minus-48 rushing yards. ... During the current seven-game winning streak dating to last season, Baylor quarterbacks have thrown 21 touchdowns and just two interceptions in 219 passing attempts. ... Baylor PK Aaron Jones is likely to become the school's career scoring leader this weekend. He's two points behind Alfred Anderson (220). ... Baylor WR Terrance Williams is 7 yards shy of 3,000 career all-purpose yards. He led the Bears with 138 receiving yards against SMU.
