Sam Houston will be out to end a three-game losing streak Saturday when the Bearkats take on A&M-Corpus Christi at 1 p.m. in a Southland Conference men’s basketball game at the American Bank Center.

The Bearkats, who started league action 4-1, have dropped their last three games. Two of the losses have come in overtime and none of the trio came by a margin of more than four points.

Nine players have led the team in scoring this year but no team member is averaging in double figures. Sam Houston stands 11-9 for the year.

The Bearkats sit second in the Southland in scoring defense (64.5) and offensive rebounds (14.8). Sam Houston has only allowed five opponents to reach the 70-point plateau this season.

Darius Gatson leads the team with 8.9 points per game ... Terrance Motley leads the team with 5.8 rebounds per game. The Bearkats defeated the Islanders 61-57 Jan. 4 in the conference opener in Huntsville.

Sam Houston leads its all-time men’s basketball series with the Islanders 11 victories to five. The Kats stand 4-3 on A&M-Corpus Christi’s home floor.

The Islanders dropped two road games to Nicholls State (69-62) and Southeastern Louisiana (67-53) last week to slip to 2-16 on the season. Will Nelson leads the Islanders and ranks seventh in the Southland with 15.5 points per game.

KSAM 101.7 FM in Huntsville will broadcast the game live.

Sam Houston’s next action after the Kats’ return from Corpus Christi will be a pair of Southland games at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.

McNeese State visits Huntsville Thursday at 7:45 p.m. It’s “Whataburger Night” at Johnson Coliseum. At halftime, the 2012 Southland Conference champion and NCAA National Championship finalist Bearkat football team will be recognized. The game also will be televised on the Southland Conference regional TV network.

The Lamar Cardinals come to Johnson Coliseum for a 3:45 p.m. date with the Bearkats on Saturday, Feb. 9. That afternoon is “Domino’s Pizza” day at the Coliseum.
