SAM HOUSTON NO. 24 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL
Tucson, Arizona - Sam Houston State (19-9) has climbed to No. 24 in the latest NCAA Division I baseball poll by "Collegiate Baseball" newspaper.
The Bearkats lead the Southland Conference baseball race with a 10-2 league mark after sweeping their last two conference weekend series. Sam Houston outscored UTSA 40-9 in three game this past weekend in San Antonio.
The Kats own an eight-game winning streak, the third longest in the 25 years the university has played as a member of the NCAA Division I Southland Conference.
Sam Houston State owns a .320 team batting average while the Bearkat pitching staff is holding opponents to a .250 hitting mean.
The Bearkats take on No. 10 Rice in Houston Tuesday night.
Sam Houston stands as one of the hottest teams in Division I baseball. UCLA has won 18 of its last 20 games, Central Florida 10 of its last 11, Baylor 11 in a row (leads the Big 12 Conference with a 9-0 record), New Mexico St. 13 in a row, Sam Houston eight straight, LSU 5 consecutive and Arizona 5 in a row.
